How to care for a polished concrete overlay floor
Care for your concrete overlay with a sealer-specific cleaning plan, grit removal, prompt spill response and maintenance guidance from your installer.

In brief
Care instructions depend on the overlay, finish and protective sealer. Obtain the maintenance instructions for your installed system before using a cleaner or machine. Generic polished-concrete advice is not a substitute for those instructions.
What should you receive at handover?
Ask for the product and sealer names, approved cleaning products, dilution and equipment requirements, and the date when routine cleaning and normal use can begin.
Puur’s PSR technical data warns that the surface is vulnerable to staining until sealed. A touch-dry floor is not necessarily ready for full use: follow the installation team’s handover instructions.
How should you manage grit and everyday dirt?
Keeping loose dirt off a finished floor is a sensible starting point. Ask your installer to specify appropriate vacuum heads, mops or machine pads and an entrance-mat arrangement for the installed system.
Choose cleaning frequency around the building’s use. A busy shop entrance and a domestic living room need different routines; an agreed maintenance plan is more useful than a fixed weekly rule.
Which cleaner is safe for a polished concrete overlay?
Use only cleaners approved for the actual sealer. Do not assume a product labelled for concrete is suitable for every decorative overlay. Confirm dilution, rinsing and equipment with the installer.
Before using acids, bleach, degreasers, abrasives or steam equipment, get explicit confirmation that they are compatible with the floor system. If a stain persists, seek advice rather than increasing the chemical strength.
What should you do about spills and damage?
Deal with spills promptly and follow the approved cleaning instructions. Keep a record of the substance involved if you need to ask the installer about a stain.
Report changes in appearance, local wear or damage before attempting a repair. Some variation is part of a hand-finished cementitious surface; the technical team can distinguish expected patina from a maintenance issue.
How do you plan long-term maintenance?
Keep the handover documents available to cleaners and facilities teams. Ask who should assess the sealer, what signs indicate attention is needed and how any future maintenance can be scheduled.
There is no universal resealing interval or cleaning recipe for every PSR installation. Contact Puur with the installation details for advice on the floor you actually have.
